A 1914 TRIO TO A CASUALTY WITH THE WELSH REGIMENT. A Great War Trio comprising 1914 Star with '5th August-22nd Nov 1914' clasp named to 10650 Pte H. Tucker 2/Welsh R, War and Victory Medals similarly named. Herbert Tucker is recorded at Council House, Montacute, Somerset, a married man with two older brothers, he was the son of James and Hannah Tucker. Born in 1893 he worked as a general labourer before enlisting on the 6th of February 1912 with the Somerset Light Infantry. During the First World War he served with D Company, of the 2nd Battalion the Welsh Regiment who embarked for France from Southampton aboard the SS Braemar, arriving in France on the 13th August 1914. As part of the initial British Expeditionary Force' Private Tucker, with his Battalion, will have taken part in the 'Battle of the Frontiers' during the early days of the War at Mons, The Aisne and other locations during the mobile phase of the War. He suffered a gun shot wound to his hand on the 2nd of November 1914 (some records say right hand, others the left). He spent time in hospital before being discharged on the 7th January 1915 as physically unfit for war work. He will have been entitled to a wound stripe and a silver war badge. Herbert lived until 1953 and is buried in St Catherine's Churchyard, Montacute.
