Banstead. 1840-46 Entire letters (3), an entire and cover comprising 1840 letter prepaid 1d in cash backstamped "+ / BANSTEAD / PAID" (SY 52), 1840 letter with a 1d stamp removed backstamped "+ / BANSTEAD" and an 1841 entire franked 1d backstamped "BANSTEAD", also 1843-46 letter and cover with red undated circle handstamps. The three straight line handstamps clearly locally made by the same individual, the Paid and unpaid handstamps with a cross above very similar but with differences to the lettering, the 1841 straight line handstamp apparently the previous "+ / BANSTEAD" handstamp with the cross removed. A remarkable and exceptionally rare group, the Paid handstamp probably the example recorded in the County Catalogue, the other two handstamps both unlisted and previously unrecorded, all three possibly unique.
