Star Lot : An important antique Velvet fabric sofa set featuring plush cushions and includes two matching couches. . This sofa was in a house belonging to Walter Cole of 3 mountjoy Square, Dublin that was used in the lead up to planning the Easter Rising, All the leaders of the rising (mostly all killed or executed after 1916, would have sat on these sofas on many occasions.) Cole Played a very significant role in the rising and gave refuge to the members of the 1st Dail at his home in Mountjoy square, including Micheal Collins and Arthur Griffith.
The Couch was subsequently passed to Christina Swanzy the vendors mother aunt who was living with Walter Cole family at 3 Mount Joy square following the death of her husband Sean Connolly on Easter 24th April 1916 at City Hall. Sean Connolly was the first rebel killed in the rising. You can see the back of the roll sofa in one of the images of the house. The other image is off Water Cole.
