A LARGE CHINESE GREY POTTERY HU JAR WITH COVER, WESTERN HAN DYNASTY (206 BC – AD 8). Heavily potted of wide baluster form made from a fine grained grey pottery that is relatively highly fired. With large and detailed Taotie mask handles with added rows of banded decoration. 46.5cm tall.
Section at the mouth has been broken off and restuck.
