A Heriz carpet, North West Persia, circa 1920. The madder field with polychrome pole medallion, serrated leaves, flowering vines and palmettes, similar ivory spandrels, within a indigo flowering vine and angular leaf border, 381 287cm. Areas of pile loss due to old moth damage. The one side edge has areas measuring 42 x 11cm, 31 x 2.5cm and 8 x 3.5cm. The opposite side has one area measuring 10 x 11cm. Also two tears at one end measuring 48 and 60cm long.
