An important and rare mid 17th century Belgium cast silver half-length model of an archangel, in the manner of Pieter Verbruggen I (1615-1686) bears worn marks possibly for Antwerp, draped in a robe with outstretched arms, now lacking wings, 22.5cm high, 1116gms, 35.88ozs *Pieter Verbrugghen I was apprenticed in 1625 as a sculptor to Simon de Neef, an ornamental sculptor. He later worked under Erasmus Quellinus I. He completed the frontal decoration of the organ the Antwerp Cathedral to a design by Erasmus Quellinus II, He made the oak confessionals in St Paul's Church in Antwerp, together with the organ case in the same church. Later he executed the designs for the high altar in 1670.
