A rare 18th century, possibly Spitalfields, cream silk ladies dress, circa 1770-1780, made in the English style, the silk being a cream stripe with delicate all over spot floral embroidery, the bodice and sleeves trimmed with delicately hand made ornamental trimming. The dress possibly made for an event such as a wedding or summer ball. There are an amount of off cuts and long lengths of unused trimming that is being sold with the dress.
Note: Silk and Lace fabrics: From the Crofts/Le Pla family. A London solicitor John Crofts married Ann Le Pla of a Huguenot family in 1731, they later lived at Malling House in Lewes (now Sussex police HQ), with a country estate in Sompting from 1754, and a home for the season in Parliament Square London
