Euginie Tripier Lefranc (French, 1805-1872), Atelier de Mme Vigie Le Brun, signed and titled l.l., oil on paper laid down on canvas, 31 by 40cm, unframed. Note: Euginie Tripier Lefranc was the niece and pupil of Elisabeth Louise Vigie Le Brun, (1755-1842) also known as Madame Le Brun. Le Brun was a French portrait painter, especially of women in the late 18th and early 19th Centuries. As her career blossomed, Le Brun was granted patronage by Marie Antoinette. She painted more than thirty portraits of the Queen and her family. This work is by her niece and it is assumed to be a self portrait of herself and her aunt at work on easels.
