Hancock & Son, Yeovil an eight-day longcase clock having an eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell, the painted twelve-inch break-arch dial having black Roman numerals, decorative gilt-brass hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, with painted decoration to the four corners depicting castles with a further scene within the arch depicting a castle overlooking a river, signed to the dial centre Hancock & Son, Yeovil, the mahogany case inlaid with ebony and boxwood stringing, the hood with barley-twist columns, wavy moulding to the door and surmounted by a crested top, height 205cm. Notes: Various members of the Hancock family are recorded as working in Yeovil as clock and watchmakers from John in 1791, his sons John and James at Middle Street in 1840 and then Hancock & Cox in Middle Street in circa 1872.
