Herbert Taylor's MM was for the Egypt/Palestine campaign and was announced in the London Gazette dated 13th September 1918. With 2 discharge certificates to 7109033 Sgt/Drummer H. Taylor Welsh Regt, born 1886, enlisted 24/9/01, discharged 26/9/22, states "was an SNCO of long service and experience. Was Band Sgt for many years before becoming Sgt Drummer, an excellent disciplinarian and good musician. Did very well in the Great War, decorated for gallantry in the field. Is a good all round sportsman taking an active part in games, etc".
With a 1922 letter on regimental paper written by CO 1st Bn while in Upper Silesia recommending for a situation advertised in the Daily Chronicle "...I recently made him Sergeant Drummer from Band Sergeant for the express purpose of improving the discipline of the Drums. He is the athlete of the battalion, Captain of the football team (which won the Rhine Army Shield) and a first class hockey and cricket player. Was an Acting Company Sgt Maj during the late war but had to drop his acting rank after peace was declared. If I had a vacancy I should have promoted him to CSM in my Battalion." With great range of supporting letters, photos and ephemera, photos in uniform and post WW2 where he acted as a standard bearer in various parades, 2 Home Guard group photos (1 taken in Hyde Park 1943), range of Xmas cards with photos (1 is 1911 Football team in which he is named), 1946 Victory scroll, 2 small Sgts Mess tankards, 1 engraved Band Sgt H. Taylor XVIII S.M. France Dec 1914 and the other engraved Band Sgt H. Taylor XVIII S.M. France 19.11.14, large Regimental silver spoon by Mappin - handle engraved XVIII SM, a soup ladle with makers marks JANS, Band Sgts pace stick, 1919 silver top engraved The Royal Irish Regiment around crowned harp, the band of the top additionally engraved around the band 1st Bn The Royal Irish Regiment, embroidered blazer badge, pressed wild flowers souvenir from Jerusalem, ribbon bar etc. With copied MIC, MM card and LG, landed France 19/12/14.
With nephew's WW2 1939-1945, Atlantic (France and Germany bar), Africa, Italy Stars and BWM swing mounted as worm with matching set of swing mounted miniatures. These attributed to C/KX.100726 L.
