EXTREMELY RARE MAIL BOAT CANCEL MAIL FROM AUSTRALIA; Mar. 1868 env. (few minor faults) to London endorsed 'From Sgt Grimes 60 Coy Royal Marines/H.M.S.Galatea - Sydney' franked 1d Red (3 - Plates 93 or 97 - possibly intended to include an extra 2d Captain's gratuity) tied to cover or each other by individual strikes of the 'A99' mailboat cancel and one also by a London Paid cds. Two examples of mail from Australia with mailboat cancels recorded by us - and this the only with 'A99' cancels. Illustrated in The Royal Marines (2006) at page 54 and an intriguing exhibition item.
