the cylindrical sides with grisaille decoration depicting an elegant lady seated in a garden, bears inscription 'to Cs. Gordon with compliments of Wang Chew-King'

PROVENANCE: From a Private Scottish Collection.

NOTE: This possibly refers to Major-General Charles George Gordon (1833-1885), also known as 'Chinese Gordon', a nickname given to him for his leadership of a force of Chinese soldiers which was instrumental in putting down the Taiping Rebellion.
