19th century Chinese Qing dynasty large goose feather fan, the feathers tipped with peacock “eyes”, the bone monture lightly pierced, the centre of the fan painted with a Chinese couple holding lanterns, to each side of which are painted large pink roses, and succulent fruits, overall height approx. 32 cm; together with a Chinese silk “trick” fan, with a lacquered wood monture, the paper panels painted with robed figures, and flowers, the fan constructed so as to open correctly in one direction and to fall apart when opened in the opposite direction, thus surprising the watchers who thus believe the fan to be broken, guard approx. 24cm (2)
