Margaret Charman (South African/British, b. 1941), a studio pottery "Mask" vase, of ovoid form extending to a tapering neck, with incised decoration, applied masks and loop handles, incised monogram and "62" for 1962 to base, 37cm high

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: Margaret Charman studied at St Martin's and The Courtauld Institute, and from 1971 lectured at Havering College, becoming Head of Art and Craft from 1974 to 1980. She became Head of Art and Design at Wirral College of Art and Design from 1980 to 1982, and then Head of the Cheshire School of Art and Design from 1982 to 1992. She has exhibited widely in South Africa and the UK, and her work is held in private collections around the world.
