Early 20th Century British General’s Saddle Cloth
A good and rare example. Dark blue Melton cloth, edged with a double line of 1 1/2 inch gold lace of oakleaf & acorn. To the hind quarters gold and silver bullion embroidered rank insignia denoting a post 1902 General. The lining cloth with ink details of “Col Bridge A.D.C.”. The overall condition is good, lace and rank remains bright one of two areas of patent leather marks.
Thomas Field Dunscomb Bridge was born in Canada c. 1848. As a Colonel he was an ADC to Queen Victoria and then to Edward VII. He became a Major General, RMLI and later a Colonel Commandant, Royal Marines. He died in 1934. The rank badges for a full General suggest this item was subsequently used by another officer.
