£800 - £1,000
1910 (Aug 14) Long registered O.H.M.S cover from Port Moresby to Gibraltar, redirected to London and again to Stirling bearing small Papua perf 11 6d (S.G. 64) and large Papua perf 12½ 1d vertical strip of three (S.G. 76), each with a clear c.d.s, a further strike in the lower left corner. Various datestamps, mostly on reverse, comprising Thursday Island (Sep 1), Singapore (Sep 26), Genoa (Oct 18), Madrid, Gibraltar, Plymouth (Nov 4) and London, officially sealed in London using seven "Found Open & Officially Sealed" labels (in two differing types!), four bearing London I.S Registered hooded circle datestamps. A little staining but an interesting officially sealed cover to a very unusual destination and apparently the earliest recorded date of use of the large Papua perf 12½ issue. S.G. give the date of issue as "Sept. 1910"; this O.H.M.S cover was almost certainly sent by the Chief Postmaster, and may be a first day use of this 1d value. Photo on Page 196.
