A GWR cabside numberplate, 9004, from a 9000 Earl Class 4-4-0 built in August 1936 using the original frames of the earlier Bulldog Class 4-4-0 No 3439 and replacing the scrapped Duke Class 4-4-0 No 3271. Because of their ancestry they were usually known as Dukedogs. Numbered 3204 when built, it was named EARL OF DARTMOUTH but lost its name the following year when its nameplates were transferred to Castle Class 4-6-0 No 5047. It was renumbered 9004 in July 1946. A Cambrian lines engine for most of its life, it was allocated to Machynlleth before finishing its days at Shrewsbury from where it was withdrawn ln June 1960 and cut up at Swindon Works. Cast brass, cleaned but unpainted. (Dispatch by Mailboxes/Collect from Banbury Depot)
