From the collection of actor Michael Jayston – John le Carré - Smiley's People - Jayston's personally owned first edition hardcover copy of the novel, signed by le Carré to the title page in blue ink. 1980, published by Hodder & Stoughton. With dust jacket, unclipped. 

Jayston appeared in the 1979 film Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, based on the le Carre novel of the same name, alongside Alec Guinness. Jayston was also supposed to appear in the TV Series of Smiley's People but was otherwise contractually obligated to another project. A signed photograph of Jayston in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is offered with the book by way of provenance. Both items from the actor's personal collection.

Michael Jayston is an English actor. He played Nicholas II of Russia in the film Nicholas and Alexandra (1971). He has also made many television appearances, which have included playing the Valeyard in all fourteen episodes of the Doctor Who serial The Trial of a Time Lord (1986) and appearing in the Only Fools and Horses episode "Time on Our Hands" (1996) as Raquel's father, James.
