I CHRISTMAS 1726 DATED SEALED ENGLISH ONION. Unrecorded in Burton. 6.8ins tall. Classic English pancake style onion wine bottle in typical black (dark green) glass. Base kick up, crude pontil, tapering neck (attractive striations), with distinctive pointy string rim (see close up - probable in use slight damage). Large, well struck, low body seal, simply READS: I/ Chriftmas/ 1726. John or James Christmas (J was written as �I�) but is untraced. Christmas�s are recorded in the West Country, Surrey, Wales and East Anglia at this date and also in America. Apart from lip damage & some general ageing/ wear, commensurate with age, a very fine example. Very difficult to see body star crack, right side of seal.
