£1,000 - £1,500
A Nicole Freres figured walnut and banded cylinder music box on a stand. Late 19th century, stamped number 52556 K, playing eight airs, on three interchangeable 15" cylinders, with six bells, tune indicator, double-spring motor and speed control, height 29.5cm, width 97cm, depth 39cm, raised on a later stand, the two additional cylinders contained in a separate box. A handwritten note states that the box was in the collection of Marie Lloyd, the famous Music Hall artiste. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/arCvD5U9Raw The box plays and changes tune but has come from a house that has been empty for a few years, so it will probably need cleaning and servicing. The teeth tips all appear to be present, apart from the one on the extreme right, please refer to the additional images. There is evidence of a little woodworm in the case, particularly on the ebonised back and side edge of the lid. There is no tune sheet. The stand is a replacement.
