A Fatimid Turquoise-Glazed Ceramic Rook Chess Piece, Possibly 10th–12th Century.
Of rectangular form with a subtly flaring, notched crest evoking the battlements of a fortress, this ceramic chess piece is a stylised rook from the Fatimid period. The turquoise glaze, now partially encrusted, covers a surface featuring symmetrical, raised scrolling motifs — possibly floral or symbolic embellishments.
