"Poems", Smith, Elder & Co 1846, advertisement at the back advertising the novels of Currer, Ellis & Acton Bell, bkpl inside front board for Gerald P. Mander, Tettenhall Wood, booksellers label Myers & Co., New Bond Street, London, front board detached, the binding is tight and clean, partial loss to backstrip but one piece is present, original publishers cloth, blindstamped decorations, dark green but with shelfwear. The Bronte sisters' first venture into print was a failure, selling only a few of the thousand copies printed when it was first published by Aylott & Jones in 1846. Several copies were distributed by the sisters to friends but the balance of 961 copies was sent to Smith, Elder & Co. who, after the success of Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre, reissued the volume in 1848, ink inscription on tp in tiny writing dated September 23rd 1858
