A FIRST WORLD WAR TRIO AND MEMORIAL PLAQUE TO THE ESSEX REGIMENT. A Great War trio comprising 1914-15 Star named to 7539 L. Cpl E.J. Brand 17- Lond. R. War Medal and Victory Medal similarly named to Brand as 2nd Lieutenant. Memorial plaque named to Eric Jermyn Brand. Eric Jermyn Brand received his Commission in November 1917, travelling to Egypt before returning to action in France. He was killed in action on the 23rd August 1918 whilst fighting with the first Battalion of the Essex Regiment. His commanding Officer A.R.C. Saunders wrote describing him as one of the best of junior Officers of whom all spoke very highly. The local newspaper reported his death 'Killed in action in France while gallantly leading a successful attack on August 23rd'. He is buried at Bucquoy Communal Military Cemetery Extension, Pas De Calais in France, his headstone reads 'Until the Day Breaks'. He was 22 years old. Mounted for display with copied research including images of his headstone.
