1852-53 Stampless covers with enclosed letters addressed to "His Serene Highness The Landgrave Charles Augustus of Hesse, Augustenau, Eisenach, Hesse, Germany"; the first written from Windsor, the second written by Prince Frederick William of Hesse from Gordon Castle, Fochabers, the notepaper and envelope flap both with the castle embossed within a coloured oval. William of Hesse married the daughter of the Russian Tsar in 1844, and became Elector of Hesse in 1875. In 1853 he was third in line to the Danish throne, his sister Louise became Queen of Denmark.
