£700
A fine quality Regency inlaid mahogany secretaire chest on chest, probably Channel Islands - the flared, moulded cornice with inlaid dentil banding and floral paterae, over two short and four long graduated drawers with oak linings and the original gilt brass swing handles with floral mounting plates and escutcheons, flanked by canted corners in satinwood with a meander edge banding, the base with three long graduated drawers, the upper drawer fitted as a secretaire with a fall-front, inset leather and an arrangement of six subsidiary drawers, four pigeonholes and two small cupboard doors with blue-stained ovals inlaid with urns of flowers, raised on swept feet (LWH 117 x 56 x 200cm), some detached mouldings and minor losses, the lower section detached and veneer missing from the front left foot.
* A similarly fine quality Regency secretaire bookcase, with a remarkably similar inlaid door to the secretaire, was sold at Martel Maides Auctions in Guernsey, the Channel Islands, in their Fine Art Catalogue Sale on 24th June 2010, lot no. 100, hammer price £7,500. That piece was signed in ink by the maker, Nicholas Lihou, dated 1813 and inscribed that it was sold to Captain Thomas Cohu.
