A Rare Patek Philippe Saint George and the Dragon chased silver pendant watch, circa 1890. The finely crafted blackened silver manual wind pocket watch modelled with a dial decorated in the Régence style, gilt chased with foliate scroll work, blue roman chapters against white enamelled oval reserves and gilt pierced Louis XV hands. The hinged case lid to the reverse cast and chased with St. George slaying the dragon inscribed with the motto ’S. Georgius Equitatum Patronus’ opens to reveal an interior decorated with a scene of Christ onboard a ship on stormy sea inscribed with the motto ‘In Tempestate Securitas’. The silver cuvette inscribed ‘No 72717 Patek Philippe & Co Geneva’. The manual winding Swiss or possibly French movement inscribed ‘Advance’ and ‘Retard’. No makers mark present. The bow bears a British lion passant silver mark. Case measurement: 1.93 in (4.9 cm) height. Suspension height: 2.83 in (7.2 cm) height.
Condition report: Slightly oxidised with an overhaul recommended, predominantly due to the enamel losses to the dial, crown and detachable minute hand.
