A PAIR OF GEORGE III SILVER TEA TUBS (CADDIES)
by Aaron Lestourgeon, London 1771, square, imitating a wooden Chinese tea chest, engraved to the sides in the workshop of Robert Clee with simulated planks and twice repeated Chinese pictograms for Yi (righteous, patriotic and justice) and Chang (prosperous, glorious and good), within borders of scrolling foliage on a linear ground, the flush-hinged lid with a cast flower sprig finial and similarly bordered, further engraved with crests and coronets. (2) 10.5cm high, 9.5cm square, 26.6 troy ounces gross
Each struck with clear marks on the undersides. The lids are appropriately marked. The hinged covers open and close neatly. There are a couple of tiny nicks. The locks are present, but no keys. In generally very good condition.
