Edmund Blampied RBA, RE, (Jersey, 1886-1966) Skiing. "The background is Pontresina - the foreground, Cupid chaperoning two amateurs", pencil and gouache on toned paper, signed 'Blam' lower centre, framed, 13 1/8 x 20½in. (33.3 x 52cm.). *Original artwork for an illustration in the British tabloid magazine "The Bystander", 2nd December 1925, vol.88, No. 1148, pp. 720-721. The Bystander was published weekly from 1903-1940. Accompanied by correspondence about this item from Dr Andrew Hall, author of "Edmund Blampied, an illustrated life", 2010. Pontresina is a skiing resort in Switzerland.
*Acidity in the support has considerably darkened the background creating an imbalance which could potentially be improved by conservation treatment. There is also evidence of retouching in an attempt to rectify the problem. Otherwise the colours are strong
