WW2 British GR VI General Service Medal bar “Malaya” correctly impressed “MAJ G.F. MOIR-BYRES GORDONS” mounted for wear with a 39-45 Star, Pacific Star, Defence and 39-45 War Medal with MID Oak leaf. With corresponding miniatures and medal bar. George Francis Moir-Byers (69179) Mentioned in despatches for gallantry whilst a POW of the Japanese. He is mentioned and pictured in “scattered Under The Rising Sun” By Stewart Mitchell, which records that Captain Fracis Moir-Byres was wounded by shrapnel during an air raid on the 27th of January 1941 whilst visiting the GOC 8th Australian division, Lieutenant General Henry Gordon Bennett. And was later captured at the fall of Singapore.

Note: A group of medals relating to Major Moir-Byres Gordons's father forms lot 2004 in the present sale.
