Winterhalder & Hoffmeier, Sch., an oak quarter chiming mantel clock, the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a gong and the 'ting/tang' quarters on two gongs, the movement backplate stamped W&H Sch. being the trademark of Winterhalder & Hoffmeier of Schwaerzenbach, the arched silvered dial having a raised chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals, with the arch having subsidiary dials for 'Chime/Silent' and regulation, with blued steel spade hands, the arched-top oak case with boxwood stringing and standing on brass bracket feet, height 23cm. Biography The origins of Winterhalder & Hofmeier stretch back to 1810 when Thomas Winterhalder established Winterhalder Uhrenfabrik. His grandson Anton Winterhalder (born 1838) was in charge of the business in Schwarzenbach in Germany when he entered into partnership with Johannes Hofmeier (1802-1876) in 1850 to form Winterhalder & Hofmeier.
