Attributed to Richard Roberts (circa 1714-1727): a set of three George I walnut and fruitwood carved side chairs, each highback chair with pierced and carved vasiform seat backs of ‘bended back’ form, yellow velvet overstuffed seats, H shaped stretcher with carved cross bar, carved cabriole leg, carved shoulders and hoof feet, 55cm by 55 by 116cm high, seat height 44cm. These chairs bear a remarkable resemblance to a set of eighteen made by Roberts for the George I dining room at Hampton court,of which ten still remain in the Royal Palace, his work is cited by G.Beard and C.Gilbert, Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660-1840, Leeds, 1986, pp.752-75.
