A Flintlock Fowling gun by Griffin & Tow, circa 1775/80, the barrel struck with maker’s mark of Joseph Griffin together with private proof marks and engraved with a beaded line over the rear, with gold-lined vent, engraved breech tang, signed border-engraved lock with engraved stepped tail and bevelled edges, the cock cut with rococo flowers and scrolls en suite with the breech tang, roller, figured walnut half-stock, the butt with a shell moulding finely carved in relief about the breech tang, engraved steel mounts including solid side-plate of shaped outline, associated ramrod (the steel parts oxidised throughout, patches of pitting, the barrel rib lifting)

Barrel length: 94cm

Associated ramrod does not fit the under-barrel mounts.
