Merone & Witore, an early 19th century mahogany wheel barometer, the 10" silvered dial signed and No 45, Fountain St., Manchester, with thermometer above, the case with boxwood inlay, 99 cm.
Guiseppe Anthony Merone, was born in 1776 near Lake Como in Italy, he settled in Manchester and anglicised his name to Joseph. From 1816 to 1841 Merone had different shops in Market Street, Manchester where he made and sold clocks, barometers, picture frames and mirrors.
