UNDERPAID 3c-RATE WITH SMALL QUEEN 3c SINGLE-FRANKING & BOXED "DEFICIENT-POSTAGE[2]/HALF-FINE[1½]"; 7 Jan. 1871 env. from "[...]INN[...]" (unclear cds on front) to Edinburgh with Small Queen 3c (just) tied by a barred oval and so underpaid for 6c rate to G.B.; so there is a mainly fine large boxed "DEFICIENT-POSTAGE[2]/HALF-FINE[1½ = 3½]" mark (of Hamilton? - cds on back) on the front. Good example of underpayment for the 6c rate using the internal Canadian rate 3c stamp - the 3c Small Queen single franking is understandably rare on covers to GB.
