Good quality 19th century mahogany cased regulator timepiece, with glazed pendulum door, the square hood covering a six pillar movement with circular silvered dial having an outer minute dial and two subsidiary dials within for hours and seconds and winding hole to upper left of center. The movement named Stauffer Son & Co,
The Company started its London operation in the 1830's and by 1885 was one of the best known and biggest watch importers in Britain even selling other manufacturers watches in their shop.
This clock was presented to the Vendors father when the London Stauffer store closed its doors in the 1960s. Its been kept within the family since then. Undergoing an extensive service and movement restoration in 2007. (key in office
Gentleman who owned it was a clockmaker for the company who made this. The pendulum has been drained and there is still a glass stick pendulum but no mercury and it has been calibrated with weights to ensure the smooth running The clock had been working right up until it was collected. The weight with the clock has been adapted to be a bit longer so there is a hole in the bottom plate (see pictures). General condition is good, some veneer missing to the top of the hood, there has been sympathetic restoration to the outside.
