1895 Pattern infantry officer's sword and metal scabbard by Wilkinson Sword, blade 60% ornately etched including crown, coat of arms and VR cypher, Egerton family crest of 3 arrows tied with bow "virtuti mon armis fido" in scroll below (I trust to virtue, not to arms), ricasso marked with Royal Warrant and Henry Wilkinson Pall Mall London in 4 lines, back of blade numbered 33444, guard with Victorian crown over VR, wire and fishskin grip with some light wear, generally good very fine.
With copied Wilkinson Sword book showing it was made on 18th September 1895 for Colonel Egerton 2 Dorset Regt. With copied Hart's List for 1895 showing Lieut Colonel Caledon Philip Egerton as CO of 2nd Bn Dorset Regt, promoted Lieut Col 19/11/91 and that he served with The Mashood Wuzeeree Expedition in 1881 and was mentioned in despatches.
