A Chinese Ming dynasty porcelain blue and white vase from the wreck of the Vung Taua Chinese junk that sunk in the South China Sea port of Batavia (today Jakarta), en route from China to Vietnam, circa 1643-1646, 11.5cm. high. Provenance: Label for Christie's lot 364 and inventory marks on lid and vessel "HC90 S.429". The cargo of around 25,000 unbroken pieces of porcelain was recovered by Captain Michael Hatcher in 1983 and later sold at Christie's, Amsterdam.
