There are visible stretcher marks, two patch repairs with subsequent overpainting. When viewed through UV light the overpainting is limited to those areas.
The signature is clear bottom left.
The painting has been cleaned but some discolouration from old varnish is still apparent down the lefthand side and righthand side (see images). The frame has been re-gilded poorly and is, in our view, too bright for the picture and masks any originality that did exist.
The frame does appear to be the original.
