** REMARKABLE DISALLOWED GB FRANKING; 8 June 1864 E to London franked 6d red brown imperf. & 2d blue perf. 12½ in combination with GB 1d red all tied by two strikes of an Auckland b/n and the latter additionally tied by '8'(d) in ms. being the total amount due. Front with "DEFICIENT POSTAGE '2'/FINE '6'" mark and circular "MORE/TO/PAY" h.s. Rear with Auckland and London d.s. Note: the via Marseilles rate had risen to 10d the year prior - making this a doubly unusual p.due item as even if the GB stamp had been recognised, the cover was still underpaid.
