A First World War honourable discharge certificate to 57275 William K. Reed, 20th Canadian Infantry Battalion, 'served with great honour and was disabled in the Great War' dated April 10th 1918, featuring an illustration after Bernard Partridge, framed and glazed, overall dimensions 61cm x 50cm Corporal William Kemp Reed was born on 28th June 1878 in Fulham, London. His CEF attestation forms list his civilian trade as a florist and that he joined up in Toronto in November 1914. Kemp embarked for France on 10th June 1916, where he remained until suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest and left upper shoulder on 12th May 1917. This resulted in a 10" scar and the loss in his ability to raise his hand above his head. War Unit diaries state that the 20th CEF were engaged in connecting rifle pits in the trenches and marking dead bodies of those who had fallen.
