1796 Portsea (Hampshire) copper halfpenny token, obv. St. George slaying dragon, legend "Promisory Halfpenny 1796", rev. Man-of-War sailing ship over large salmon, inscribed to edge "PAYABLE AT S. SALMONS I. COURTNEY & E. FROST PORTSEA X.
This token was produced by the proprietors of a group of public houses with the Salmon representing S. Salmon of the Brown Bear, St. George for John Courtney's George Inn and the ship for Edward Frost's Ship Inn.
