THE RARE "MALTA*P PAID" MARK ON COVER TO FRANCE + MARITIME COVERS TO ITALY/G.B.; Very fine 8 Sept. 1828 EL (in French) from "Malte" to Marseilles (carried by the ship "Amiral Codrington") with a mainly very fine rare "MALTA*P PAID [3]" (MPP-1a) nicely placed on the front along with a partial "MARSEILLE" arrival mark and manuscript "1" local charge; plus 1828/30 pair of ELs to GB/Genoa from Malta but handed directly to ships - charged "1/9" with "P 12 P/MARSEILLE" or with v. fine red "VIA DI MARE". Good trio; the MALTA* PAID mark is very seldom seen. (3 covers)
