A FINE 19TH CENTURY FRENCH GRANDE-SONNERIE ENGRAVED GORGE-CASE CARRIAGE CLOCK the gilt-brass foliate engraved moulded case with matching gilt side panels enclosing a masked enamel dial signed by the retailer 'Idrac Leroy, 22 Rue du Bouloi, Paris' with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds dial above a panel of three subsidiary dials for month, alarm and days fronting a substantial eight-day spring driven movement with original compensated lever balance escapement striking and repeating the quarters on two gongs controlled by a three position selection lever to the underside marked 'Pte Sonnerie, Silence, Gde Sonnerie' - the backplate signed by the retailer and with maker's stamp. (25cm high handle up)
