A collection of mid-late 20th century African woven baskets of natural and dyed woven materials, made and used by the indigenous women of the Mwino Valley, Kenya, largest basket 37cm in diameter (1 tray) Provenance: from a collection of items gifted to the Revered Canon Philip Price (British, 1925-2010) from the Pokot and Tamkal tribal communicates as a mark of respect and thanks for his ministry and good works. The majority are utilitarian or decorative items used by the indigenous people with a selection made by schoolchildren from the villages of the Mwino Valley. See a copy of the document signed and sealed by Leonard Mombassa, née Beecher, Archbishop of the Province of East Africa, from 1960 to 1970, recording the gift of the items to Price. Note: Proceeds from the sale will go directly to the people of the Mwino Valley, contributing to relief efforts in response to recent devastating floods.
