Three bone fans c.1860- 1880’s, the first mounted with a cream silk leaf, painted with leaves, the flowers worked in pastel ribbons, the upper edge with the further addition of a band of machine lace, guard approx. 24cm plus 4cm for the lace; together with a second cream silk fan, finely painted with a spray of autumn leaves and flowers, the gorge very attractively carved and pierced, guard approx. 28cm,contained in a silk-covered fan box, the owner’s initials painted on the lid, the inside marked in ink “J. Chomette, Paris; and a third fan, the monture carved and pierced, the lithographed leaf with a lively scene of dancers and musicians, possibly Spanish, the verso with a pastoral scene of friends relaxing in the countryside (3)
The first fan is in good, used order. The second fan has a repair to the upper guard, the third fan appears to have been inset with roundels which are missing, and has a repair to the upper section of the lower guard.
