£23,000
A late 19th Century 'The Waverley Type Writer', maker Higgins & Jenkins, with vertical type bars behind platen for visible writing, ribbon ink, QWERTY keys with upper and lower case shift bars, proportional spacing and three pronged paper carriage, on a black lacquered base with remains of gold lettering and border, maker's title to right hand side of frame as per title, 30 x 26.6 x 27.5cm.. *Notes- The Waverley Typewriter was one of the first typewriters to allow visible typing compared to many others that required lifting of the carriage to inspect the work. This was achieved by the unusual vertical type bars but made the paper carriage complicated. Edward Smith Higgins & Henry Charles Jenkins had begun work on the Waverley in 1889 and the finished product was only on the market for two short years between 1895 to 1897.
