A SECOND WORLD WAR BRITISH EMPIRE MEDAL GROUP OF FIVE. A group of five comprising British Empire Medal named to Sydney George Conrath, with 1939-45 and France and Germany Stars, Defence and War medals, all unnamed as issued. Sydney Conrath of 'Eastgate' Limes Avenue, Waddon near Croydon, a plumber by trade, was awarded the British Empire Medal for rescue and first aid work at Waddon on the 27th October, 20th November and 16th April 1941. There are reports of each occasion, the report for May typifies these: On the night of the 27th October last when an H.E. fell and practically demolished No.92 Waddon Road, he was outstanding in rescuing the 6 occupants rendering first aid and getting them out of them of the premises, though the danger of falling debris was great'. Mounted for display with copied research and press cutting with image of the recipient.
