A THIRD REICH KRIEGSMARINE OFFICER'S NAVAL DIRK BY EICKHORN, SOLINGEN, CIRCA 1942
the 10in. blade etched with fouled anchor and foliate designs, cross guard and ivorine handle with wire-bound ivorine grip with brass eagle terminal, engraving for W. Kleist / Ob-Masch and Eickhorn Solingen maker's mark to reverse, contained within brass scabbard of issue with belt rings -- 16¾in. (42.5cm.) long
Walter Kleist, an obermachinist served on U-71 and is thought to have been promoted as an officer candidate which entitled him to wear a dirk, although with the War's end it seems to have rarely been worn as the condition is exceptionally fine.
