Edward McDonald was a banker, shop owner and local agent for the Mission to Seamen on the Isles of Scilly. During the First World War he found himself to be the linchpin for a network supporting some 2000 seamen who were wrecked - mainly by torpedo - and who arrived in a bedraggled condition at his door. He would ask the wrecked parties to form a circle and hold clothing next to them to gauge size before plying them with tea and coffee as billets were identified before transfer to the mainland. His efforts were recognised with this teapot which was presented on 16th February 1919.
