1896 DONGOLA CAMPAIGN: 22 Sep. 1896 stampless Officer's env. (part of the "Sloggett Correspondence") to London. Endorsed "Active Service/No stamp available" and signed "A.T. Sloggett, Surgeon-Major, S.M.O. British Troops, Dongola Exped. Force, Zawrat, 22.9.96 (written on the day when the Army rested at Zarawat before taking Dongola). Env. has a fair "WADI-HALFA/CAMP" c.d.s. (30 Sep. 1896) alongside boxed "T" and "2½d/F.B." charge mark. Backstamped Cairo & Paddington. Very fine.
